Creative Coaching
One-to-one coaching with Hugh Leeman, for people with a good career and a nagging feeling there's something more.

The Reset: one deep session to get you unstuck and moving again

The Reset is a single, focused, no-stone-unturned conversation. Maybe you're a strong performer who's quietly bored. Maybe you're sitting on a side project that never leaves the notes app. Maybe you're eyeing the exit but won't leap blind. Whatever it is, we put it on the table and work it out together.
We spend 90 minutes on your story, where you actually are, and what you want — the hopes and the fears both. Then we run it through The Curiosity Map, my framework for finding the blocks, the openings, and the strengths you've stopped noticing. Afterward, you get written notes of recommendation: specific next steps, tools, and exercises to carry into your next chapter. If it turns out there's more to do together, we'll talk. But The Reset is built to stand on its own — for managers, founders, operators, career-changers, and anyone who needs a sharper sense of direction.

Wait, is this therapy?

No. Not therapy, not business coaching, and not the shout-at-you-around-a-track kind either. I'm not a licensed therapist and I won't pretend to be one. But I'll be honest: this work is deeply human, and it starts with the person, not the plan. You can't reconnect someone to their creativity by handing them a productivity hack. You do it by getting the human heard, understood, and unblocked first. The rest follows.
I've spent more than twenty years making art, teaching it, and building things off the map; a nonprofit, a publication, community projects, a whole practice at the edge of AI and creativity. The throughline in all of it is people. Helping them see what they're actually good at, name what's really in the way, and take the next honest step.

Why work with me?

Because your life is moving faster than you can make sense of it, and creativity is the first thing that gets filed under "later." I've spent two decades watching how people lose it and how they get it back. Not by adding more to the to-do list, but by understanding what curiosity actually is and how to put it back to work in a job, a project, or a whole new direction.

I coach individuals and teams to understand themselves, tell their story, and get real command of their creativity again. Everyone I work with leaves with The Curiosity Map so they can keep going on their own. Whether you're a leader who feels boxed in by your own résumé, a professional itching to build something of your own, or someone who just wants to stop running on autopilot — this is for you.

The Curiosity Map

Every session runs on a simple framework I built from twenty-plus years of teaching, making, and paying attention. We don't just talk in circles; we map the whole system so you can see it and keep using it after we're done.

Six areas:

Story — where you come from, and what it's actually pointing at
Signal — what genuinely pulls your attention, versus what you think should
Craft — the skills you undervalue because they come easy to you
Friction — what's really in the way: fear, time, money, identity
Tools — your relationship with technology and AI
Motion — the next honest step, and the one after that

The Runway
Ongoing — 3 to 4 months

Six sessions across three to four months, every two or three weeks, with email access in between. This is where real change happens — enough runway to test an idea, build momentum on a side project, or work through a bigger transition step by step, with someone in your corner between calls. I take a limited number of ongoing clients at a time, so each one gets my full attention.

A Day Away
In person, San Francisco

A full day out of the office and away from the screen. We start with coffee and what's really on your mind, then spend the day in the city's great museums — SFMOMA, the de Young, the Asian Art Museum — not for an art lesson, but because stepping into someone else's imagination is the fastest way to get perspective on your own life. We walk, we talk, we sit in a park and map what's next. I've spent years helping audiences see more in what's in front of them; here, we point that at you. A follow-up call a few weeks later keeps it real. Not in San Francisco? Let's talk.

What this is, in a nutshell

Honest, human-first, one-to-one work to get your original thinking and creative energy flowing again
Practical guidance on doing meaningful, original work — and staying valuable — in the age of AI
Candid conversations that surface the opportunities, blind spots, and blocks you've stopped seeing
A mix of straight talk, strategy, and genuine encouragement, built around you

What this is not

I won't tell you which promotion to chase or which job to take. There are business coaches better placed for that.
I won't promise to grow your income by X percent in Y months. That's not what this is.
I won't hand you a generic five-step plan. Everything here is built around your actual life.
What I offer is human: the clarity, confidence, and tools to find your own way forward and make work that matters to you.

For the head, who is this guy?

Fair question. Here's the short version.

I've spent 600-plus hours lecturing for universities including Johns Hopkins, Duke, and Tufts, and at museums including SFMOMA, the de Young, and the Asian Art Museum. I host a podcast where I interview New York Times best-selling authors, Emmy and Peabody winners, and internationally recognized artists. I co-founded a nonprofit building clean-water infrastructure for an Indigenous community in the Philippines, and I co-founded and edit an independent contemporary art publication. I'm an exhibiting artist with a master's focused on using AI as a tool for human connection. I teach and coach in English and Spanish.

Working with me, you get personalized access to all of that — two decades of understanding how creativity actually works, and how to put it back into a life that's gone a little grey.

For the heart, why I do this

Creativity is my life's cause. I notice the good and the potential in people, especially the parts they've written off. The "flaws," the detours, the weird interests that don't fit the job description — those are usually where the real work is hiding.

I get a genuine kick out of helping people find momentum again. I've been doing it in classrooms, on stages, and across kitchen tables for twenty years, and I'd do it whether or not there was a business attached. Nobody creates well from a place of exhaustion or fear. So we start there — with the human — and build forward.

If you believe curiosity is worth reclaiming, and you're ready for an honest conversation about how, we're probably a good fit. Let's find out.

Creativity in the age of automation

AI is here, and it isn't going back in the box. It's neither your savior nor your executioner — how you respond is what decides that. Everyone has the same tools now, so the edge isn't access. It's you: your judgment, your taste, your story, your point of view. The people who'll thrive aren't the ones who out-prompt everyone. They're the ones who stay curious, stay human, and use these tools with intention.

Here's what I've learned building a practice around exactly this: most people who use creativity every day have never been taught what it actually is. School never covered it. So when the ground shifts, they panic. But conscious command of how your own creativity works is a genuine superpower right now — in your job, your side project, and whatever you build next. That's the work I do. If you're open to a candid, occasionally uncomfortable conversation about where you fit in all this, let's talk.

Maybe we're right for each other

If any of this landed, drop me a note below and we'll set up a quick call to say hello. No pressure, no pitch — just a real conversation about what you're chasing and whether I'm the person to help you chase it.
